Perry Manor nominated for two national awards

Perry Manor is celebrating after being nominated for two national care awards.

The home has made it to the final stage in the category for ‘Best Individual Care Home’, and for ‘Best Home for Sporting, Social, or Leisure Activities’ in the Care Home Awards.

Perry Manor nominated for two national awards

The national awards recognise and reward excellence and innovation in UK care home management, operation and delivery.

The home, which is rated ‘outstanding’ by the CQC, was nominated for ‘Best Individual Care Home’ due to its belief that every colleague should support residents to enjoy a fulfilling life, and residents should play an active part in the life of the home, making choices about their care, lifestyle and the home environment. The team members are dedicated to expanding opportunities for residents, both in the home and the community, through partnerships with various local groups and organisations.

The residents are supported to live each day in the way they wish, taking on roles to help them feel valued and in control, for instance via the ‘Voices of Perry Manor’, which implements new ideas and changes in the home. Team members set up a wishing tree on which residents can hang their written wishes of things they’d like to do. The home team works hard to make these come true – most recently a lady who used to be a shepherdess enjoyed a visit from a lamb, and another who was in the RAF has visited the RAF Museum.

Perry Manor is also a finalist in the Best for Sporting, Social or Leisure Activities category thanks to the impressive range of activities on offer at the home. Residents enjoy regular intergenerational activities, with the team developing fortnightly visits from the local nursery, as well as art projects with older children. The home has also developed a strong relationship with the Worcester Warriors rugby club, with players visiting the home each week to enjoy a variety of activities. Their visits bring a genuine buzz to the home, and male residents particularly appreciate the players’ visits.

Recognising that not everyone is naturally inclined to join social groups or activities, residents whose preference is to stay in their rooms have a forget-me-not flower outside their door  as a reminder to colleagues to regularly pop in and say hello. Thanks to the enhanced interaction he has experienced, one gentleman is now confident enough to come out of his room to chat and make a cup of tea.

Katherine Matthews, home manager at Perry Manor, said: “We are thrilled to have been nominated in the ‘Best Individual Care Home’ and ‘Best Home for Sporting, Social, or Leisure Activities’ categories at this year’s Care Home Awards.

“At Perry Manor, we place great emphasis on individuals to ensure that everything they do or experience is meaningful and life-enhancing for them. Our activity-based approach to care means that residents are welcome to help around the home, and our extensive range of activities and regular outings aim to offer something for everyone.

“We aim to provide home-from-home care, built on respect and understanding of residents’ needs and wishes. The passion of our team and the quality of our service shows that the residents are at the heart everything we do. We have our fingers crossed for a win!”
