On Saturday 18th May, from 2pm-3pm, Tor-Na-Dee, on North Deeside Road, is inviting the local community to a 1950s-themed event to mark the 65th anniversary of Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley and the Comets, widely considered to be the world’s first rock ‘n’ roll anthem.
Guests are invited to dress up in vintage clothes and jive to live entertainment from Hazel Milne, while the home will be adorned with 1950s memorabilia, giving everyone an opportunity to step back in time.
The nationwide initiative, launched by Care UK, sees care homes across the country get together to host rock ‘n’ roll-themed events. The aim is to encourage residents to reminisce about their younger years and share memories of life in the 1950s.
Maureen Barrett, home manager at Tor-Na-Dee, said: “Here at Tor Na Dee, we feel it is important to build a strong relationship with the local community, so we’re excited to take a trip down memory lane with everyone to mark the 65thanniversary of Rock Around the Clock.
“Our theme is sure to bring back memories, with many residents witnessing the birth of rock ‘n’ roll in the 1950s – so I’m sure many of them will enjoy remembering their younger years, and maybe even teach us a dance move or two.
“We have a fun-filled day of activities planned for residents, team members and the community, and are looking forward to seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces as they twist and jive.”
