Community invited to jive at Mountbatten Grange

On Monday 20th May, from 2.30pm - 4.30pm, Mountbatten Grange is inviting the local community to a 1950s-themed event. This is to mark the 65th anniversary of Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley and the Comets, which is widely considered the world’s first rock ‘n’ roll anthem.

Guests can swing and jive to a rock ‘n’ roll show specially performed by residents and team members at Mountbatten Grange, followed by live entertainment. The home will also be adorned with 1950s memorabilia, giving everyone an opportunity to step back in time.

The nationwide initiative, launched by Care UK, sees care homes across the country get together to host rock ‘n’ roll-themed events. The aim is to encourage residents to reminisce about their younger years and share memories of life in the 1950s.

Saad Baig, home manager at Mountbatten Grange, said: “Residents and team members alike have all been rehearsing their dance moves ahead of the big day, so we’re excited to take the community on a journey back to the 1950s to mark the 65th anniversary of Rock Around the Clock.

“Many residents witnessed the birth of rock ‘n’ roll, and fondly remember the time they spent jiving and swinging in dance halls, so this will be the perfect opportunity to reminisce about their younger years.

“We look forward to welcoming the community for a fantastic afternoon of reminiscence and rock ‘n’ roll.”
