Bloomin’ Marvellous - Field Lodge invites special guest to garden competition

Green-fingered Field Lodge residents took part in a competition to transform their garden with help from the Mayor of St Ives, Councillor Tim Drye.

Bloomin’ Marvellous - Field Lodge invites special guest to garden competition

Residents at Field Lodge took part in a raised flower bed competition to spruce up their garden ahead of the summer. The two-week project encouraged residents to get creative and design their own raised bed with an individual theme.

Residents drew inspiration from their own life stories and memories, creating designs based on themes such as the seaside, nature, friendship and their hobbies. The beds also incorporated colourful flowers and fragrant herbs to awaken the senses.

Once the beds had been designed, the residents were then able to get planting and worked together to create beautiful garden spaces. The winning bed, ‘Buttercup Bees’ designed by the Buttercup suite team, was selected by the mayor and celebrated with a certificate presentation at the home.

Linda Martinez, home manager at Field Lodge, commented: “The raised bed competition has been a huge success, and it was fantastic to see residents getting creative and enjoying the outdoors.

“Sharing a hobby, such as gardening, provides a common interest for many older people, and allows new connections and friendships to grow.  We are incredibly proud of the new raised beds, and would like to say a huge thank you to Councillor Tim Drye for helping us pick the winning design.”
