The grass is greener at Sudbury Hill train station, thanks to Buchanan Court

Residents at Buchanan Court are giving back to the community using their gardening skills.

The grass is greener at Sudbury Hill train station, thanks to Buchanan Court

Buchanan Court decided to spruce up its local underground tube station, Sudbury Hill, by adding some greenery.

The flowery display saw two large plant pots with colourful flower arrangements pop up just outside the station entrance.

Residents and team members met with representatives from Transport for London to mark the beginning of a blossoming relationship between the home and the local authorities who helped complete the stunning display.

Ruth Halls, home manager at Buchanan Court, said: “The community is an essential part of life here at Buchanan Court, so decorating our local station is our way of thanking them for their support – by making their commute that bit greener.

“Many residents at the home have a passion for gardening, so everyone was thrilled to take part in this initiative. Gardening has many benefits for older people, especially those living with dementia, encouraging physical activity and also time spent outdoors. It can give older people a sense of purpose and stimulate memories, while also lowering stress and anxiety levels.

“We look forward to seeing our plants continue to blossom and brighten up the station and working on more exciting garden projects in the future.”

Geoffrey Tulloch, resident at Buchanan Court and keen gardener, added: “I am very happy to join in with gardening because I find it relaxing to put work into helping plants grow and seeing them develop as the seasons change.

“This opportunity is great as it gives the community a chance to see what happens in our home.”
