Harrier Lodge care home was opened by the Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Councillor Colin Spooner, and Mary Neame, who use to own the land where the home was built. The Sheriff of Canterbury, Councillor Jeanette Stockley, was also in attendance to celebrate the special day.
Visitors were greeted by a professional singer, and tapped their feet to live entertainment from a school choir, who got everyone in the party spirit with their Disney renditions, amongst others.
Residents and guests also had the opportunity to meet the friendly dogs from the Canine Cuddle Club, and to polish their cake-decorating and cooking skills during a special workshop. Flower arranging demonstrations were also on offer, as well as pampering facials. Guests also enjoyed games, including a demonstration of Harrier Lodge’s interactive ‘magic table’, which provides stimulating activities for those living with dementia.
Those who attended the event also had the chance to meet the friendly team at Harrier Lodge and take a tour of the new care home, as well as enjoy an afternoon high tea specially prepared by the home’s chefs.
Care UK regional director Angi Knight, said: “We were delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor of Canterbury and Mary Neame to officially open the home and mark this important milestone.
“The residents had a fantastic time celebrating, and we were so pleased to be joined by so many local people on this very special occasion. To everyone, from the Canine Cuddle Club to the Mayor, we’d love to say a big thank you. After such a successful event, we are already looking forward to our next celebration!”
