Residents at Harrier Lodge welcomed two very special ‘neigh-bours’ when Bella and Bertie the miniature Shetland ponies visited.

The friendly ponies created a stir when they trotted into Harrier Lodge. Everyone was thrilled to have the opportunity to stroke and pet them.

Bella and Bertie were taken on a tour of the care home’s garden, spending time with residents, who also had fun chatting and discussing the Grand National horse race which happened on Saturday.

Diane Collins, home manager at Harrier Lodge, said: “It was wonderful to see the smiles on everyone’s faces when Bella and Bertie arrived at Harrier Lodge. Their visit created a lot of excitement among the residents and Care UK team.

“Petting animals and being in their company has proven therapeutic benefits, particularly for those living with dementia, as it can reduce anxiety, release calming endorphins, and decrease feelings of loneliness. You could see from the residents’ reactions just how engaged they were when given the opportunity to get so close to such lovely, affectionate animals.”
