Snowdrop House invites the community to free nutrition advice event

Snowdrop House is inviting local people to a free event where they can learn more about how to cater for older loved ones.

Snowdrop House invites the community to free nutrition advice event

On Thursday 21st March, from 2.30pm - 4.30pm, Snowdrop House is welcoming James Clear, hotel services manager for Care UK, and Andrew Mussett, regional chef of Care UK, to share advice on the importance of nutrition and hydration in later life.

James and Andrew will be visiting the home to discuss the preparation of nutritious meals for older loved ones, how to stimulate appetite and incorporate all the senses at meal times, and also share tips on maintaining a healthy weight through food fortification. The session will be fully interactive, and guests will be invited to participate in food tasting throughout the afternoon.

There will be a Q&A session to ensure attendees get the most out of the talk, and the chance to find out more about Care UK’s approach to dining with dignity, including how to accommodate different diets, such as those for people with difficulty swallowing.

Members of the local community will also have the opportunity to meet the team at Snowdrop House, take a tour of the care home, and pick up a copy of Care UK’s free guide ‘Eating as we age’.

Clare Crow, home manager at Snowdrop House, said: “We understand the importance of providing tasty, nutritious and well-balanced seasonal menus for older people, and pride ourselves on helping individuals to dine with dignity.

“This event will help carers support their loved ones to eat and drink well, and help them to overcome challenges along the way – a balanced diet can boost health, relieve aches and pains and even increase mental wellbeing.

“By hosting a free event on the subject, we can provide the people of Ware with expert advice, inspiration and the opportunity to find out more about the importance of healthy eating and hydration in later life.”
