The team at Cairdean House visited Braidburn Nursery to present them with a £855 donation, raised during the home’s summer fete and Christmas celebrations. The funds will go towards new equipment in order to develop learning opportunities in areas including science, technology, engineering and mathematics, while also upgrading some of the nursery’s existing features.
The donation is part of an ongoing partnership between Cairdean House and Braidburn Nursery, which began three years ago. Residents and the children from the nursery meet regularly for various activities together, including sing-alongs and gardening.
Speaking about the donation, Cairdean House home manager, Gillian Goodall, said: “We have a brilliant relationship with Braidburn Nursery, and the local community is an important part of life here at Cairdean House, so we wanted to take this opportunity to show our support.
“Intergenerational relationships have also proven to be enriching for both sides: they can reduce the isolation of older people, and they provide an opportunity for both children and residents to learn from each other. It is fantastic to see the friendships some of the residents have developed over the years, so everyone at the home is looking forward to visiting the nursery again soon.”
Debbie Ward, principal teacher for Braidburn Nursery, said, “We were delighted to receive this generous donation, which will enable us to expand the learning opportunities for the children.
“It has been lovely to have some of the residents come and work in our herb garden, so we look forward to welcoming them again very soon. On behalf of everyone at the Braidburn Nursery, I would like to thank Gillian, the team at the home, and Care UK for their generosity.”
