It’s time for a cuppa at Edinburgh care homes

Three local care homes are asking the people of Edinburgh to join them for coffee, cake and a chat to raise funds for Dementia UK.

It’s time for a cuppa at Edinburgh care homes

On Friday 1st March, from 2pm - 4pm, Murrayside will open its doors to the community for a bake sale and afternoon tea for the charity initiative, ‘Time for a Cuppa’. Guests will also have the opportunity to enjoy a live performance from Tamarin Fountain, an improviser and storyteller.

Meanwhile, Cairdean House will also have baked treats at the ready, and guests are invited to join residents for a cuppa on Wednesday 6th March, from 2pm-4pm.

Residents and visitors will be able to relax and enjoy hot drinks, alongside a selection of indulgent treats specially prepared by the homes’ chefs, all of which will be available in exchange for a small donation to Dementia UK.

The community is also invited to pop into Lauder Lodge, on Saturday 9th March, from 2pm - 4pm. In addition to being treated to delicious cakes, guests will have the opportunity to try their luck at a raffle, and to take part in various games, including ‘guess the weight of the cake’.

2019 marks the 10th anniversary of ‘Time for a Cuppa’, previously known as ‘A Tea Party to Remember’, an initiative launched by Dementia UK which encourages individuals and organisations across the country to host tea parties in order to raise funds. The initiative has helped funding 30 Admiral Nurses, who provide specialist dementia care and support for 6,000 people living with dementia and their families.

Home manager at Cairdean House, Gillian Goodall, said: “Thousands of people around the UK are living with dementia, and we understand all too well how much this can affect their lives and the lives of their loved ones. Providing specialist dementia care is at the heart of what we do here at Cairdean House, and we strongly believe that everyone deserves to have access to all the help and support they need.”

David Holbrook, customer relations manager at Lauder Lodge, added: “Hosting a Time for a Cuppa event provides us with a great opportunity to thank Dementia UK and the Admiral Nurses for the incredible work that they do, so we hope local people will join us on the day to share a cuppa with friends.”
