Andrew Radgick, from Bracknell’s Forest Society, took part in a competition to name the new home on Warfield Road, which opens early next year.
The competition called for local residents to share suggestions which include a cultural or historical reference to the town.
Andrew came up with ‘Bickerton House’ in honour of two brothers from the area, who ran a brewery from 1840 until 1920. To this day, their name can still be seen on the side of an old local shop that used to sell their beer.
Eileen Coyle-Jones, regional director at Care UK, said: “The naming process is a key milestone for the new home, so it was important to involve the community in the decision. All the names put forward were of a very high quality, but we felt Bickerton House was particularly original, and really rooted the home in the local area.
“We’re so grateful to everyone who made a name suggestion, and of course to Andrew for coming up with the winning name.”
Andrew added: “I have lived in the Bracknell area for many years, so when the opportunity arose to be a part of the town’s history, I leapt at the chance.
“I am delighted Bickerton House has been selected and think it’s a lovely way to preserve the heritage of Bracknell and celebrate the history of the town – and the people who lived here.”
