It’s all in a name: Dulverton pupils lend a helping hand to Smyth Lodge

Children from a local primary school have been learning about the city’s heritage to come up with names for the suites at Smyth Lodge.

It’s all in a name: Dulverton pupils lend a helping hand to Smyth Lodge

Pupils from Dulverton Primary School took part in a competition to name the five suites at new care home, Smyth Lodge, on Frognal Avenue.

The children put their heads together to come up with a list of names that have cultural or historical reference to them and the local area, and these were then whittled down to the top five by the Care UK team.

Now that Smyth Lodge has opened, the local school-themed suites are known as: ‘Birkbeck Suite’, named after Birkbeck Primary School, ‘Hurstmere Suite’, named after Hurstmere School for Boys, ‘Chatsworth Suite’, named after Chatsworth Infant School, ‘Longlands Suite’, named after Longlands Primary School, and ‘Dulverton Suite’, dedicated to the children at Dulverton Primary School as a thank you for helping to name the suites.

Care UK presented the winning children with individual book vouchers to say thank you for all their hard work.

Lorraine Eastmead, who has taken the reins as home manager of Symth Lodge, said: “As we have welcomed the first residents to the home this February, the all-important naming of the suites within the care home is a priority, and we thought thispresented an excellent opportunity to work with Dulverton Primary School, and to get to know our neighbours a little better.

“The ideas the pupils put forward were all of a very high quality, and we’re really pleased with the chosen five names.”
