The team at Heather View welcomed pupils from St John’s Primary School for a ‘Guy making’ challenge to celebrate Bonfire Night.
Residents teamed up with ten Year 6 pupils to build a ‘Guy’, and residents shared their memories of Bonfire Night and the history of the Gunpowder Plot.
The ‘Guy’ was taken on a tour of the care home, and he is now displayed in the home’s reception to raise money for the poppy appeal.
Home manager, Natasha King, said: “We are always looking to plan interesting and exciting activities for residents, and as so many have cherished memories of Bonfire Night, we invited pupils from St John’s Primary School for a fun arts and crafts session.
“Arts and crafts and other creative projects can have many therapeutic benefits for older people, especially those living with dementia, by keeping their minds busy and giving them a sense of purpose. Coupled with the benefits of intergenerational relationships, activities like this provide a wonderful opportunity for both age groups to learn from each other. It was wonderful to see residents and children sharing happy memories of Bonfire night, and we look forward to welcoming the school again soon for Christmas carols.”
