Wish comes true for Weald Heights musician

A wish came true for a resident at Weald Heights when they experienced a private tour of the Royal Albert Hall.

The team at Weald Heights organised the trip to the Royal Albert Hall when resident Eric Hitch made a wish on the home’s ‘Wishing Tree’ to visit the grand concert hall in London.

Eric, a passionate musician who plays violin and piano, has many happy memories of special visits to the Royal Albert Hall with family and friends.

After requesting a trip to the famous concert hall for his 90th birthday, the care home planned a surprise tour of the venue so Eric, along with his son Malcom, could admire the magnificent Grade I listed building that has hosted the likes of Adele, Eric Clapton, and Shirley Bassey.

Eric went on a behind the scenes tour of the Royal Albert Hall, and had the chance to see the stage from the balconies, visit the dressing rooms and admire the spectacular mosaic frieze that encircles the building.

Maria Covington, home managerat Weald Heights, said: “Residents are at the heart of everything we do here at Weald Heights, and I am delighted that we could make Eric’s birthday wish come true. He is so passionate about music, we knew we had to make this trip extra special with a behind the scenes tour of the iconic venue.

“Since his visit to the Royal Albert Hall, Eric has not stopped talking about his day - not just the tour but also the travelling to London and seeing the hustle and bustle of the city that remains so vivid in his memories.”

Eric added: “It was a brilliant trip, and really a dream come true for a music fan like me. It was such a brilliant surprise - I cannot thank the team enough for giving me the opportunity see the Royal Albert Hall up close and share great memories – plus make new ones with my son!”
