To celebrate World Poetry Day, Care UK organised a national poetry competition, encouraging care home residents to put pen to paper to create their own short verses and poems.
Residents from a creative writing group at Perry Manor collaborated to write a poem about their memories. The carefully crafted piece describes their lives, from playing as children, to marriage, and life at Perry Manor.
Perry Manor home manager, Katherine Matthews, said: “We are thrilled that the residents’ poem is the runner-up in Care UK’s poetry competition. It’s a beautifully written poem and the residents are really pleased to see their efforts recognised.
“Here at Perry Manor, we like to support residents to continue enjoying their passions and hobbies. World Poetry Day gave us a great opportunity to encourage residents to enjoy the benefits of writing – poetry is a great way to express emotions and memories, and the residents really enjoyed teaming up to create this poem together.”
