The team at Greville House welcomed the people of Richmond to enjoy Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative set up to develop lasting relationships between care homes and local communities, and to dispel common myths about care home life.
Residents and visitors enjoyed a royal-themed ball, with performances from Victorian and Edwardian singing troupe, the Bold Balladeers. Local pupils from St Elizabeth’s Primary School were also in attendance, and spent the afternoon chatting and playing games with residents, as well as delivering a special performance of songs and poetry. Visitors were also treated to a delicious chocolate fountain and ice cream stall.
Junior members of The Challenge, a UK based charity that seeks to bring people of all generations together, were also on hand to celebrate. Residents and members of the charity enjoyed creating fascinator hats to wear on the special day, and took part in a fun-filled ‘day at the races’ horse race. The day was finished off with a variety performance, including opera and songs from musicals.
Vivian Epie, home manager at Greville House, said: “We had a fantastic day celebrating Care Home Open Day at Greville House. The residents all really enjoyed spending time with the school children and singing along to the musical performance.
“Care Home Open Day is all about building bridges with our local community, and showing what life in a care home is really like, so it was brilliant to see so many of our neighbours come along for the party. We would like to say a big thank you to the people of Richmond for celebrating with us.”
