Bowes House invites local people to a right royal knees up

Home news

Bowes House is opening its doors to the local community for a special celebration to mark the upcoming royal wedding.

On Saturday 19th May, from 11.30am-4pm, Bowes House is inviting local people for a ‘right royal knees up’ and to raise a glass to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The home will be adorned with union jack bunting and residents will have their British flags at the ready for a live screening of the wedding. The lifestyle team has also organised a day a royal family quiz and a right royal raffle. Visitors and residents are also encouraged to join in a sweepstake and guess the colour of the Queen’s outfit.

To top off the day, guest will be treated with a delicious afternoon tea specially prepared by Bowes House’s head chef, including an elderflower and lemon cake wedding celebration cake.

Helena Barrow, home manager at Bowes House, said: “We were all so excited when we heard there was to be another royal wedding, and knew we had to do something to celebrate!

“Celebrating Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s big day is not only a wonderful opportunity to bring the community together, but it’s also a great reminiscence activity for residents – particularly for those living with dementia. Many of the residents love to talk about the Queen and her life, so celebrating the marriage of her youngest grandson is a great talking point for us here at Bowes House.

“We’re looking forward to bringing the bunting out once again for a day of celebrations, and we hope the local community will join us in raising a glass to the royal couple!”
