Residents were delighted to be visited by dogs from the Met Police for an interactive talk on the types of dogs they use for different tasks.
Residents enjoyed an informative talk about the dogs and their training, and had the opportunity to stroke and pet the friendly canine companions.
The dogs were also taken on a tour of the care home, visiting residents’ rooms to ensure everyone had the chance to meet and interact with them.
Home manager, Rick Mayne, said: “We are always looking to plan interesting and exciting activities for residents, and so many have a keen interest in animals and pets. We were delighted to be visited by the Met Police, and it was fantastic to see the smiles on everyone’s faces when the trainee police dogs arrived.
“Activity based care is at the heart of everything we do here at Sherwood Grange, and we believe this special visit had real therapeutic benefits for residents – especially those living with dementia.
“You could see from residents’ reactions just how engaged and happy they were to get to play with and pet such lovely animals. We would like to say a big thank you to the Met Police and their dogs for such a fantastic afternoon!”
