Time to rhyme for World Poetry Day at Lauder Lodge

Lauder Lodge are preparing to celebrate World Poetry Day on Wednesday 21st March.

Residents at Lauder Lodge have got their poetry books at the ready and are looking forward to being joined by children from local school for World Poetry Day later this month.

World Poetry Day is an annual celebration of rhythmic literature and promotes the reading, writing, publishing and teaching of poetry throughout the world.

Lauder Lodge will receive the visit of two different classes from Towerbank primary school during the day to read poems aloud together.

Residents are also putting pen to paper to create their own short verses and poems to enter into Care UK’s poetry competition, which is taking place nationwide to mark World Poetry Day.

Home manager, Michelle Reid, explained why taking part in World Poetry Day is important for residents at Lauder Lodge: “Many residents will have fond memories of the poems they read in their younger years and can be incredibly valuable to tap into those memories.

“Sharing poetry is a simple activity that has many therapeutic benefits, even for those that may struggle to communicate, simply listening to a poem can help reduce the feeling of isolation, alleviate boredom and ease anxiety.

“Poetry can also bridge the gap between different generations and be enjoyed by all, whether you’re reading a popular classic or writing your own verse. We are delighted to be joined by a local school for a day of rhyming fun!”
