Residents spent the day reading, writing and sharing some of their favourite poems to mark the event.
The team also invited local poet, Alan Jones, to join in with the celebrations and share some of his favourite poems with the residents.
Home manager, Michelle Webster said: “We had an excellent day celebrating World Poetry Day. Reading, writing and listening to poetry is an activity enjoyed by all of the residents here at Cedrus House, and we had a delightful time celebrating the occasion with Alan Jones. Not only is poetry calming for those living with dementia, but it can also act as a great reminiscence activity as, for many residents, hearing lyrics and poetry can evoke fond memories from the past.
“The residents really enjoyed sharing poems from their past with friends and family, as well as putting pen to paper to write their own rhymes. We would like to say a big thank you to Alan and all those who celebrated with us for such a brilliant day!”
