Snowdrop House hosted Year Six children from Sacred Heart and St Catherine Schools and Mayor of Ware, Councilor Alexander Curtis, for a day of fun activities and mayoral duties.
The children had previously entered a competition run by Ware Town Council, in which they had to write a letter to Cllr. Curtis, explaining why they should be Mayor for the day.
The winning entries included suggestions as to how they would make Ware a better place to live, including: increasing the sports facilities in the town; promoting equal opportunities for men and women, and setting up charities to help homeless people.
The competition winners, Daniel Birkett, Izzy Butt, Angela Rae Espina, Simi Tamana, Lauren Britnell and Christopher Clark, were invited to meet the Mayor and share their ideas with him, as well as taking part in arts and crafts with Snowdrop House residents – which included making their very own ‘chain of office’.
Snowdrop House home manager, Cheryl Forshaw said: “We were delighted to host the children and the Mayor of Ware to celebrate the efforts of the six brilliant competition winners. Having recently arrived in the town, it’s really important that we build strong relationships with the local community from the offset, so we were delighted when the council asked us to host the event.
“The residents didn’t stop smiling all day, they had a great time speaking with the children, and Alexander – who is fast becoming a regular at the home – and taking part in the themed arts and crafts. We hope everyone had as good of a day as we did, and look forward to welcoming the children and Cllr. Curtis back to the home in the future.”
Mayor of Ware, Councillor Alexander Curtis, who officially opened Snowdrop House in November 2017, commented: “"It was fantastic to work with the Year Six students for this event. Ware Town Council is very passionate about engaging young people with the local community, and I look forward to carrying out similar initiatives in the future in order to achieve this."
