The home manager from Appleby House is celebrating after being recognised in a national awards.
Home manager Shona Bradbury, at Care UK’s Appleby House on Longmead Road, won the Dementia Care Personality at the National Dementia Care Awards after judges recognised her skill and dedication to caring.
The National Dementia Care Awards are held annually and recognise the very best in dementia care across the sector. The purpose of the awards is to pay tribute to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding performance within their field of work.
Shona and members of the team at Appleby House adopt a person-centred approach, and tailor care plans to residents’ individual needs. The team advocate activity-based care, and have introduced a variety of activities to help residents lead their lives as independently as possible, as well as improving personal wellbeing.
Shona has worked at the home since 2014 and has built strong relationships with the local community during her time as home manager, including with members of the local church and pupils from the local primary school, who frequently visit residents at the home. Not only does Shona go over and above with care for the residents with challenging needs, but she continues to support relatives at every stage.
Commenting on her win, Shona said: “I am absolutely thrilled to have won the award for Dementia Care Personality at the National Dementia Care Awards.
Getting to know each resident’s personality is something I really enjoy, and I love being able to help them continue their lifelong hobbies or find new interests such as art. I’m delighted to receive national recognition from the care sector for my work with residents and the team at Appleby House.”
