Jean and Philip Samson, who married in 1973 at St Hubert’s Church in Wimborne, were joined by family, friends and the Care UK team as they celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary at The Potteries.
When asked the key to a long and happy marriage, the couple revealed their secret is to always be friends, as well as lots of love and laughter. The day of celebrations included cup of tea and a homemade cake.
Jean, now 83 met Philip, 86, in 1949 in Poole when she was just 16 years old. After the couple married, they lived together in their bungalow in Dorset for over 50 years, until Philip moved to The Potteries in June 2017. Having visiting her husband many times at the care home, Jean also became a respite resident in September 2017, allowing the couple to spend many of their days together.
Zita Turner, home manager at The Potteries, said: “We like to make all our residents feel at home by keeping to any traditions they have and taking the time to celebrate special occasions such as anniversaries. We simply couldn’t miss the opportunity to raise a glass to Jean and Philip.
“It is a pleasure to see a couple that are so close after 67 years together. Everyone had such a fantastic time, and it was an honour to celebrate this impressive milestone with the couple.”
