On Saturday 23 September, the team at Appleby House opened the doors to the care home on Longmead Road for a night at the opera.
Residents and guests were treated to a special performance from professional opera singers, Rebecca Burraway, James Schouten and Susan Clarke, who took to the stage in the home’s garden. The evening included performances of a number of opera classics which appealed to all ages, as well as those living with dementia.
As well as enjoying the spectacular line up, guests and residents were tempted with a delicious selection of tasty treats and refreshments throughout the evening.
Home manager at Appleby House, Shona Bradbury, said: “We were thrilled to welcome so many members of the local community to the home for what was a memorable night at Appleby House. The opera performances were a big hit with both guests and residents, and for many of those living with dementia it proved to be an effective reminiscence activity.
“As well as being an enjoyable evening, it was also a great way to raise money for a cause close to the hearts of many here at Appleby House, and we’re delighted to have raised over £1,600 for local charity, Musical Memories. We’d like to thank the friends of Appleby House, as well as the local community, who all helped make the night such a success.”
