Residents at Weald Heights enjoy arty afternoon

Weald Heights welcomed professional artists to lead a creative craft session with residents.

Residents at Weald Heights were joined by artists from Creative Minds, an organisation delivering art and crafts sessions to older people, those with learning difficulties, and adults in the community.

During the session, residents channeled their artistic side by creating 3D works of art using origami flowers embellished with paper cut-outs, pipe cleaners and felt shapes.

Creative Minds deliver more than 250 art sessions a month to more than 1,300 participants across the country.

Home manager at Weald Heights, Maria Covington, said: “Art is a much-loved activity for the residents here at Weald Heights so it was wonderful to have Creative Minds come into the home to lead this workshop.

“The residents loved experimenting with the different art mediums and materials to create a piece of artwork which they can call their own. Art has many benefits for older people – it can improve self-confidence, increase cognitive stimulation and improve motor skills. It is also an activity that can be enjoyed by all, so we look forward to running more art sessions in the coming months.”
