Year Four pupils from Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School took part in a competition to name the three suites at Care UK’s new care home, Snowdrop House on Baldock Street.
The children put their heads together to come up with a list of names that have cultural or historical reference to them and the local area, and these were then whittled down to the top three by the Care UK team.
When the home opens on Baldock Street in August, the suites will be known as: the ‘Bluecoat Suite’, named after Ware’s oldest building; the ‘Lea Valley Suite’ in reference to the River Lea which runs through the town; and the ‘Adams Suite’, named after Samuel Adams, the brewer who was based at Canons House – which once stood on the Baldock Street site.
Care UK presented the winning children with individual book vouchers to say thank you for all their hard work.
Sharon Butler, customer relations manager at Snowdrop House, said: “As we gear up to welcome the first residents to Snowdrop House later this year, the all-important naming of the suites within the care home is a priority, and we thought this presented an excellent opportunity to work with Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, and to get to know our neighbours a little better.
“The ideas the pupils put forward were all of a very high quality, and we’re really pleased with the chosen three names.”
Ruth Manning, Year Four teacher at the school, commented: “The suite naming activity not only gave the children an excellent opportunity to learn all about the new care home here in Ware, but it also encouraged them to think about the history and geography of their local area when seeking out inspiration for their entries. The activity was enjoyed by all the children here, and we hope to do more with Sharon and the team at Snowdrop House in the future.”
