Care UK and specialist construction partner, Jenner Construction, have celebrated the start of work on the purpose-built home on Montpelier Avenue. When complete it will provide full time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 65 older people and create approximately 70 new jobs.
The three-storey home, which is expected to welcome its first residents in late 2018, will include facilities such as a cinema, café and hairdressing salon. Wheelchair friendly landscaped outdoor space will include sensory gardens, water features and seating to give residents the opportunity to spend quality time outdoors.
Tim Parker, project manager for Care UK, said: “We are delighted work has begun on our new care home in Whitstable, not least because this impressive development reflects our commitment to improving the provision of residential care in the town.
“We take great pride in the build quality, layout and design of each individual home, as these factors can greatly impact the everyday experiences of residents. Our new care home will live up to these standards and will provide a quality home for older people from Whitstable and beyond.”
Nigel Griffiths, site manager at Jenner Construction, said: “Construction of this high-quality new care facility has got off to a great start and we are on schedule to complete the scheme in November 2018. This is a high-profile project for Jenner Construction and we are proud to be playing a part in the delivery of this much-needed new care home for the Whitstable community.”
Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, the new care home will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the building will be configured into a series of individual suites; each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close knit communities.
