Ferndown Manor was one of thousands of care homes across the UK to take part in the annual initiative aimed at challenging perceptions of care homes, connecting residents with people in their community, and developing relationships across the generations.
Residents at Ferndown Manor were joined by the local community for a summer garden party where they were treated to a summer picnic, including strawberries and cream, ice cream, traditional cream tea and sandwiches.
There was fun for all the family when visitors took part in the garden games, and local centenarian, Edna Bradshaw, was awarded a special prize as the person who came dressed in their best summer hat.
Janet Lewis, home manager at Ferndown Manor, said: “We were delighted to welcome so many members of the local community for the home’s very first Care Home Open Day, which is all about connecting people and enriching the lives of residents through lasting relationships.
“Both the residents and guests loved the host of entertainment that was on offer throughout the afternoon, and everyone commented how much they enjoyed the celebration. Overall it was a fantastic day and we look forward to welcoming the people of Ferndown for future events.”
