RSPB Birdwatch flocks to Field Lodge

Field Lodge got a bird’s eye view when they took part in this year’s RSPB Big Garden birdwatch.

Residents from Field Lodge were joined by the Raptor Foundation, a rescue service and rehabilitation facility for injured raptors, for the world’s largest wildlife survey at the weekend.

The Raptor Foundation visited the home for the birdwatch and brought a variety of owl species for the residents including a Barn Owl, a White Faced and African Spotted Eagle Owl and a Tawny Owl. The visit also included a flight display by the Barn Owl. 

The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch encourages people throughout the UK to take a closer look at the nature on their doorsteps by counting the different birds, as well as recording any non-bird species such as badgers and hedgehogs, which visit their garden in any one hour. This takes place over the last weekend of January.

Customer relations manager at Field Lodge, Toby Swallow said: “We are always looking to plan interesting and exciting activities for residents and, as so many have a keen interest in nature and wildlife, we couldn’t wait to get stuck in with the birdwatch.

“The visit from the Raptor Foundation was a real success, you could see from residents’ reactions just how much they enjoyed viewing the birds. It was also fantastic to see the smiles on everyone’s faces, and we believe it had real therapeutic benefits for residents – especially those living with dementia.”
