A care home in Colinton is celebrating after raising more than £4,000 for Alzheimer Scotland.
The Care UK team at Cairdean House care home took part in a number of fundraising activities to raise money for the leading dementia organisation in Scotland.
Michelle Reid, the home manager, took part in a 5K race, which was match-funded by Care UK, and four team members took part in a sponsored sky dive. The home also organised summer and Easter fetes, and encouraged team members to take part in non-uniform days to raise funds.
Michelle presented Teresa Straczynski, from Alzheimer’s Scotland, with the cheque on behalf of the team at Cairdean House at a Dementia Friends awareness event. The charity joined forces with the care home to host a workshop with residents and guests to help people understand what dementia is and how memories are lost.
Teresa Straczynski, from Alzheimer’s Scotland, said: “We are so grateful to the team at Cairdean House for their generous donation. Without their help, we wouldn’t be able to provide the vital support services and information for people living with dementia and their friends and family throughout Scotland.”
Michelle Reid, home manager at Cairdean House, said: “The team has worked really hard over the past year to raise money for Alzheimer’s Scotland. It’s a cause close to all of our hearts at Cairdean House and everyone got really involved in the fundraising activities.
“We are committed to encouraging others to learn about dementia, and are really proud to be supporting Alzheimer’s Scotland. We want to continue educating the Colinton community and surrounding areas to help them understand what it is like living with dementia.”
