The team at Bowes House welcomed the community to a free performance of the classic Dickens story, which had been especially adapted to be suitable for all, including those living with dementia.
The team at Bowes House joined forces with local theatre group, The Dot Collective, which brings the feel of the theatre to the comfortable surroundings of a care environment. The performance was designed to stimulate, entertain and offer a shared experience that was suitable for all the family.
Home manager at Bowes House, Helena Barrow, said: “We are all looking forward to Christmas, and this performance was a brilliant opportunity to get everyone in the festive spirit. It was wonderful to be joined by the local community for the special production, which was enjoyed by all ages.
“The colourful sights and distinctive sounds of the theatre production provided plenty of sensory stimulation for older people, and the sensitively designed nature of this performance ensured it was suitable for residents and visitors living with dementia. We want to say a huge thank you to The Dot Collective who make classic tales accessible for all, and allow families to spend time together at this special time of the year.”
