Stowmarket care home wins approval of national care inspectors

Cedrus House care home has been given the seal of approval by a national care watchdog, with relatives and residents praising the home’s caring and compassionate team members.

Following an unannounced inspection of the care home on 4th July, 2016, Cedrus House has been given a ‘good’ rating in a report by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The inspector found that people were treated with dignity and respect, and that carers understood residents’ individual needs and wishes.

In order to assess service standards at Cedrus House, the CQC’s inspector spoke with team members, residents and their visiting relatives on the day of the inspection. They also reviewed the records and procedures already in place at the care home.

The inspector noted that residents were encouraged to participate in a range of activities both in and outside the home, which were meaningful and promoted independence. Activities include weekly keep fit sessions, gardening, visits to the local church and arts and crafts. The inspector also noted the positive relationship that the home has established with the neighbouring Cedars Park Community Primary School, after residents and young school pupils took part in a project together with Suffolk Artlink.

Relatives were positive in their comments about Cedrus House, saying that Care UK colleagues are caring, discreet and approachable. The inspector noted that there were regular opportunities where residents and their families could offer feedback, as well as find out more about upcoming events and activities at the home. The home also has a wish tree on the wall, where residents can share their wishes, make suggestions and express what makes them happy.

Cedrus House home manager, Michelle Webster, said: “We are all thrilled to have received a ‘good’ rating from the CQC. Not only are the CQC’s findings an important benchmark for those looking at future care for loved ones, but they also give existing residents and their families even more confidence in the care services we provide.”
