Thousands set to join Care UK celebrations for Care Home Open Day

Thousands of people are expected through the doors of Care UK care homes this coming week, as over 100 of its care homes across the UK join in the celebrations for Care Home Open Day.

Homes up and down the country will be inviting local people along for a free family-friendly event in support of Care Home Open Day – an annual nationwide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities, and across the generations.

Each and every home team is planning its very own fun celebration.  Some will be theming their events around The Queen’s 90th birthday, with street parties, royal tea parties, nominate a ‘Queen for the Day’ and screenings of the Coronation among the many activities taking place.

Others will be hosting their very own Carnival party in honour of the Rio 2016 Olympics, and guests can expect the likes of armchair Olympics and sports day-style races, Brazilian food and even a limbo competition.

Punch and Judy shows, magicians, balloon modelling, face painters and visits from a hosts of pets, donkeys, creatures and critters are set to entertain younger members of the community at some homes; while live music and dancing featuring everything from school choirs to ukulele bands will help the parties to go with a swing.

Andrew Knight, managing director for care homes, said: “Care Home Open Day is all about connecting people and enriching the lives of residents through building on relationships with local people and community groups.  This year we wanted to show our support and commitment for this initiative by making it our biggest and best contribution to Care Home Open Day yet.

“There is a huge amount of excitement building in our care homes as plans are finalised for the open days. For the first time ever, the vast majority of our homes are taking part. The Care UK teams have all been inspired and enthused, and we will be seeing a diverse programme of activities and attractions across the homes including the likes of belly dancers, barbecues, photo booths, archery and animal Olympics!

“Everyone is looking forward to getting behind Care Home Open Day and we cannot wait to open our doors to show thousands of people what their local care home has to offer”.

The invitation to visit one of the homes taking part in the open day is extended to all local people - not just those with friends or family members living in the home.
