The international day aims to create lasting links between care home residents and their local communities, and to develop relationships across the generations.
The event at Cleves Place will be one of thousands taking place across the UK to help challenge perceptions about the care environment and to show what day-to-day life is like for residents. Residents and colleagues at Cleves Place will be hosting a glitzy and glamorous ‘Day at the Oscars’ themed party with canapés and Buck’s Fizz, a catwalk show, followed by afternoon tea and live music at 2pm. The event is free to attend and all are welcome.
Sharlene Van Tonder, home manager at Cleves Place, said: “We are really looking forward to taking part in this year’s Care Home Open Day and to sharing with the community what life is like at Cleves Place. Visitors can expect a warm welcome at our fun event for all the family.”
Care Home Open Day is also an opportunity for visitors to meet the Cleves Place team and pick up copies of Care UK’s free guides which are full of practical hints and tips to support family carers and their loved ones living with dementia. These include ‘Listen, talk, connect’, ‘As Easy as ABC’, ‘Good to Go’ and the new ‘Eating as we age’ guide which provides practical tips and recipe ideas for eating well in older age.
