From 10am until 3pm, the team at Scarlet House will be opening the doors to the care home for a free family-friendly event. The day is in celebration of Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.
In honour of the Queen’s 90th birthday, the team at Scarlet House are hosting a right royal celebration, complete with a royal poetry reading recital. There will also be live entertainment and a special visit from the Pearly King and Queen.
Residents and visitors will have the opportunity to take a virtual journey on the care home’s ‘steam train’. Designed to encourage reminisce, the train carriage which has been installed in the home, includes an old-fashioned train window which allows passengers to watch the changing scenery.
Pyela Mwale, home manager at Scarlet House, said: “Care Home Open Day is about connecting people and enriching the lives of residents through building lasting relationships with the local community across the generations.
“Opening our doors is also a great opportunity to show what life is really like in a modern care home; and we hope to change any preconceptions people might have while also showing everything Scarlet House has to offer.
“We have got a fun day of activities planned and are really looking forward to getting behind Care Home Open Day on Friday 17th June and welcoming the people of Stroud to be a part of it.”
Visitors to the Care Home Open Day event at Scarlet House will also be able to pick up their copy of Care UK’s Eating as we Age. The latest in a series of free guides for family carers, Eating as we age is packed with hints and tips for keeping healthy and hydrated in older age.
