From 10.45am-3.45pm, the team at Bowes House will be opening the doors to the care home for a free family-friendly event. The day is in celebration of Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.
The theme of this year’s event at Bowes House is the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations and residents and visitors are invited to join in the ‘right royal knees up’ complete with homemade cakes and refreshments. Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet Bowes House’s special guests the Land Army Girls and celebrate their achievements. There will be a host of stalls selling gifts and handmade crafts, plants and produce home grown by Bowes House residents, and the home is also welcoming a local antique’s expert who will be offering free antique valuations throughout the day.
Helena Barrow, home manager at Bowes House, said: “Care Home Open Day is about connecting people and enriching the lives our residents through building lasting relationships with the local community across the generations.
“Opening our doors is also a great opportunity to show what life is really like in a modern care home; and we hope to change any preconceptions people might have while also showing everything Bowes House has to offer.
“We have got a fun day of activities planned and are really looking forward to getting behind Care Home Open Day on Friday 17th June and welcoming the people of Hailsham and surrounding areas to be a part of it.”
Visitors to the Care Home Open Day event at Bowes House will also be able to pick up their copy of Care UK’s Eating as we Age. The latest in a series of free guides for family carers, Eating as we age is packed with hints and tips for keeping healthy and hydrated in older age. The guide can also be downloaded free at www.careuk.com/eat
