Field Lodge scoops Care Home of the Year award

The care team at Field Lodge care home in St. Ives are celebrating after their home was named ‘Care Home of the Year’ at Care UK’s annual awards.

Field Lodge, which first opened its doors in spring 2014, beat off competition from over 100 care homes across the UK to be presented with the prestigious Care Home of the Year accolade at this year’s Care UK Stars ceremony.

The awards recognise and reward individual and team excellence across Care UK’s 114 homes.  The panel of judges, which included chief executive Andrew Knight, highlighted the way in which the Field Lodge team demonstrated tenacity and a positive outlook in everything they do; engaging residents, family members and colleagues in fulfilling residents’ lives.

Bernard Mawoyo, regional director for Care UK, said: “Field Lodge home manager, Lisa Houghton, and her team are truly an inspiration to us all and our congratulations go to all at the care home for a very well-deserved award win.  Lisa is an outstanding leader with great empathy for residents and her very special approach is reflected through her whole team – everyone at Field Lodge shows a heartfelt enthusiasm to improve the lives of residents.”

The Field Lodge care team were also recognised for their excellence in dementia care. Bernard continued: “The team’s understanding of how dementia affects residents’ needs is reflected in the range of activities provided at the care home and the ways in which special areas have been incorporated into the care environment at Field Lodge so residents can follow their passions and continue to meet their aspirations.”

The Care UK Stars award coincides with Field Lodge team leader, Jade Sweeney, picking up the Dementia Carer Award at the recent East of England Care Awards – an annual initiative which is supported by the likes of the Department of Health and the United Kingdom Home Care Association (UKHCA).
The judges commented: “Jade is the youngest of the candidates for this category, but the passion and care she shows for her residents is incredible.  Jade demonstrated what a wonderful industry this is and is a wonderful ambassador for the sector.”

Home manager, Lisa Houghton, said.  “It has been an unbelievable week for Field Lodge and we are all so completely thrilled to have celebrated two award wins – particularly as the competition was so fierce in both the Care UK Stars and East of England Awards.

“Everyone here is so proud that Field Lodge has been named Care Home of the Year and this really is testament to the dedication of each individual team member.  We are also so incredibly pleased for Jade.  We all think she deserves every success and it is great to see her gaining industry recognition for her achievements.”
