From 10am until 12pm, dementia specialist Andrew Potts will share his knowledge and provide practical tips for those caring for someone living with dementia. He will help people understand the condition, learn how memories are lost, and give guidance on how to overcome communication barriers.
After the event, Andrew will be on hand to answer any questions and there will be an opportunity for members of the public to meet the carers at Heather View and take a look around the home.
Heather View home manager, Trish Banks, said: “Research undertaken by Care UK has highlighted the challenges faced by family carers across the UK, with only 14 per cent of people in the south east believing they would be able to cope if a parent or close relative was diagnosed with dementia. What’s more, almost half of all respondents in the region were unaware of the support available should they find themselves caring for someone with the condition.
“By hosting a free event on the subject, we can provide people in Crowborough and surrounding areas with expert advice and give them a chance to find out more about caring for a loved one living with dementia.”
Those who attend the understanding dementia event at Heather View will also be able to pick up a copy of Care UK’s Good to Go. The free guide highlights how important it is for those living with dementia – and their carers – to get out and about, and the emotional and physical benefits of staying active.
