The care home honoured the day of remembrance by hosting a ‘street party’ and welcoming residents from the neighbouring Priory Hall retirement village to join in the day’s activities. Visitors and residents enjoyed a day of music and song, with Colne View’s very own residents’ choir kicking off the day’s entertainment.
Omar Taylor, home manager at Colne View, said: “The celebrations were really enjoyed by everyone. We had nearly 80 residents and visitors taking part and the choir proved to be so popular that everyone requested song sheets to join in.”
Following a lunch of homemade sandwiches and cakes, the residents and visitors then enjoyed the musical delights of Chris Gordon, who performed classic war time songs.
Omar concluded: “It was a great day for everyone who took part. Although we play music in the care home every day, it was great to have the choir and Chris Gordon singing live. Music can be uplifting for residents and can create a sense of togetherness.
“This was also a great opportunity for our home to become more involved in the local community and grow our relationship with the local retirement village. It was a really enjoyable day and we hope that it is the first of many community events in partnership with Priory Hall.”
