The Understanding Dementia event at Cleves Place will be hosted by Rachel Niblock from Dementia Adventure, who will provide practical tips and advice to local residents who currently care for a loved one living with dementia. Rachel will explain what dementia is and how memories are lost, as well as looking at ways to overcome communication barriers and discover positive approaches to living with dementia.
Sharlene Van Tonder, home manager at Cleves Place care home, said: “It is really important for family carers to be equipped with plenty of support when caring for loved ones living with dementia. By hosting a free event on the subject, we can provide people in Haverhill with expert advice and give them a chance to find out more about dementia services in the area.”
The event will also provide opportunities for family carers to pick up copies of Care UK’s free guides which are full of practical hints and tips to support family carers and their loved ones. These include ‘Listen, talk, connect’, ‘As Easy as ABC’ and the new ‘Good to Go’ guide which launched in May 2015 and provides tips and encouragement to help family carers enjoy outings with their loved ones living with dementia.
