Born in Greenwich on the 20th June 1909, Minnie grew up with her four sisters and a brother, leading a fun and interesting life. Working on the sweet counter in Croydon from the age of 14 and then later in George Payne’s Chocolate Factory, Minnie’s love for sweets blossomed in everything she did.
At the age of 18 Minnie married Stanley Hunt and they went on to have two daughters; Doris, now aged 86 and Rita, now aged 84.
Family and friends (including her 2 oldest friends May and Kathleen – who all used to go on holiday together) joined Minnie and the Mill View team for a party with a birthday cake baked by the care home chef to mark the impressive milestone.
“I love to cook and decorate cakes” Minnie told us “It was lovely to see someone had made such a wonderful cake for me on my birthday.”
There were many other highlights throughout the day, including a congratulations card from the Queen and great discussions between family and friends about Minnie’s love for dancing, swimming and gardening.
Cindy Luscombe, home manager at Mill View, said: “This was a really lovely day for Minnie and her family. It was an honour for everyone here to be part of the celebrations and we all had a wonderful time.
“We always take the time to celebrate special days like birthdays and anniversaries and we like to ensure all residents feel at home by keeping to any traditions they may have.”
