Following the success of the first two group meetings, which featured guest speakers from the Alzheimer’s Society and Age UK, the team at Priors House care home has invited Rose Ferguson, carer-support worker from Guideposts Trust, to speak about the work the Trust does. Rose will also help to signpost people to additional support networks and further information about dementia.
The support group at Priors House aims to give carers, families and people living with dementia guidance and advice on how to live well with the condition, both in the community and in a care home. It also gives local people an opportunity to meet others and share similar experiences.
Julia Joy, home manager at Priors House, said: “This will be the third support group we have hosted at Priors House and so far the sessions have been a great success. Feedback has suggested people welcome the opportunity to access knowledge, advice and gain crucial practical support within their community.”
Refreshments will be available after the event, and visitors will have the chance to take a tour of the home and meet members of the Care UK team. The support group will continue to meet on the last Friday of every month following this event, with speakers and experts joining future meetings to offer additional support.
Visitors to Priors House can also pick up their copy of Care UK’s Good to Go. The free guide highlights how important it is for those living with dementia – and their carers – to get out and about, and the emotional and physical benefits of staying active.
