Topping off a fantastic year, the team at Priors House opened the doors of the care home for a family-friendly summer garden party. The event featured the musical talents of the Spa Strummers Ukulele Group and there were also stalls with handmade goods and crafts, refreshments and fun games for children to take part in throughout the afternoon.
The anniversary celebrations at Priors House also coincided with Care Home Open Day – an annual initiative aimed at challenging perceptions of care homes, connecting residents with even more people in their community, and developing relationships across the generations.
Julia Joy, home manager at Priors House said: “Our first anniversary was a really exciting milestone for Priors House and it gave us a lovely opportunity to look back at the successes of the last year. We are lucky to have so many lovely residents, since June last year we’ve welcomed 108 residents for long-term or respite care at Priors House.
“It was great that our anniversary coincided with Care Home Open Day. Although our home is always open to guests, it was wonderful to have a day to really celebrate and show all the good work we do. It was pleasure to meet everyone and to give visitors the opportunity to take a look around Priors House. We all had a wonderful day and hopefully we have demonstrated how modern care homes are warm and inviting while also strengthening our links with the local community here in Leamington Spa.
Visitors to the Care Home Open Day event at Priors House were also able to pick up their copy of Care UK’s Good to Go. The free guide highlights how important it is for those living with dementia – and their carers – to get out and about, and the emotional and physical benefits of staying active.
Good to Go provides practical advice on how to make the most of every outing, big or small, with words of encouragement volunteered by people working in Care UK care homes, as well as residents and family carers.
