Care UK invites people in Stansted to celebrate Care Home Open Day

Care UK’s Mountfitchet House care home in Stansted Mountfitchet is inviting local people to visit the home on Coltsfield on Saturday 20^th June to join in its celebrations for Care Home Open Day.

From 11am until 3pm, the team at Mountfitchet House will be opening the doors to the care home for a free family-friendly event. There will be a selection of stalls selling homemade goods and produce from the local community.  Visitors can also enjoy tea and cake while they meet members of the friendly team and take the opportunity to tour the care home.

The event at Mountfitchet House is one of thousands planned throughout the UK for Care Home Open Day.  The annual initiative is aimed at challenging perceptions of care homes, creating lasting links between care homes, residents and their local communities, and developing relationships across the generations.

Allison Squires, home manager at Mountfitchet House, said: “Care homes undoubtedly play an important role in the local community; however some people have preconceived ideas about the care environment and what day-to-day life is like for residents.  This is partly because they have never seen a modern care home for themselves. 

“We are therefore looking forward to getting behind Care Home Open Day on Saturday 20^th June.  We cannot wait to showcase everything Mountfitchet House has to offer and the difference care homes make to residents’ lives and their wellbeing.  We have planned a fun day for all the family and a warm welcome awaits the people of Stansted.”

Visitors to the Care Home Open Day event at Mountfitchet House will also be able to pick up their copy of Care UK’s Good to Go.  The free guide highlights how important it is for those living with dementia – and their carers – to get out and about, and the emotional and physical benefits of staying active.

Good to Go provides practical advice on how to make the most of every outing, big or small, with words of encouragement volunteered by people working in Care UK care homes, as well as residents and family carers.  The guide can also be downloaded free at www.careuk.com/goodtogo.
