That’s the spirit

Residents at Foxbridge House in Orpington got into patriotic mood on St George’s day with the support of activities staff, and a little culinary help from Martin, the home’s chef.

Martin and his team prepared delicious cakes for the residents for afternoon tea and tables were decorated with St George’s day flags, made by the residents.

One of the home’s volunteers, Peter, was a great sport, having his face painted with the St George’s flag while several residents ‘flew’ the flag by having it painted on their arms.

Amelia Moore, activity coordinator and customer relations assistant said, “Everyone really enjoyed the day, and the home looked very colourful with all the red and white flags that residents made.

“Making decorations is a really good way of getting everyone together as a community in the home and having some creative fun. There was a great atmosphere around the home on the day.”

With everyone together, a discussion soon started about their memories of street parties and celebrations, and talk soon moved on to the forthcoming VE celebrations on 8 May. The team at Foxbridge House will be organising street party themes on all the home’s floors and there will be decorations and memorabilia throughout the home, plus a real party atmosphere with sing-a-longs and an afternoon party.

Martin the chef, will be busy again organising traditional street party food, and the activities team will be armed with decorations, flags, and traditional 1940’s clothing to make the day memorable for everyone.

Amelia said, “These days are all about making people smile. The sound of laughter and singing is the best therapy for everyone,”
