Residents of Appleby House cast their vote

Residents at Appleby House took a trip to their local polling station to cast their vote in this year’s general election.

Three of the residents took the trip to the Longmead Centre, Sefton Road, Epsom along with activities coordinator, Jacqueline Dye and received a warm reception by the community, some of which were very surprised to see people from a care home coming to vote.

Patricia Smith, one of the voters said, “It was pleasant to go out to see other people and it felt good about doing something for my country."

Prior to the election, residents were asked if they wanted to vote, and a lot of relatives had arranged for postal votes to be sent but Patricia, Shirley Glazebrook and Joyce Weston opted for a trip in in the minibus used by Orchard clients.

Joyce added, "It’s extremely nice that we are able to get out and vote, we have a vehicle to take us out regularly which is brilliant.”
