Construction starts on new £7.5m Care UK home

Construction is now underway on a new £7.5 million Care UK home in North Bar Place, Banbury. The purpose-built care home is expected to create up to 75 jobs when it opens in 2016.

Representatives from construction partner, Healthcare Development Services Ltd (HDS), joined forces with Care UK to mark the start of the construction programme.

The new three-storey care home, which will feature 73 en-suite bedrooms, has been sensitively designed to provide a high quality environment for the provision of full time residential care, specialist dementia care, nursing, and short term respite care. It will also include a cinema, hairdressing salon and café.

Gary Renton, construction project manager for Care UK, said: “As the latest addition to a growing portfolio of residential care homes, this highly impressive new development at North Bar Place represents a major investment for Care UK. When complete, the new care home will boost the provision of quality residential care for people living in Banbury and beyond, as well as creating jobs for local people.

“We take a great pride in the build quality, layout and design of each individual care home – not least because these are all very important factors which can greatly impact the everyday experiences of those living in a care environment. The new Banbury home will live up to these standards and will undoubtedly provide a quality home for those who need care in the area.”

Mark Briggs, senior project surveyor for HDS, is overseeing construction of the new multi-million pound care home. He said: “Construction has got off to a great start. At its peak, we expect this project to bring together around 40 construction workers on site to deliver the new care home on behalf of Care UK. This is a key development for HDS and we look forward to seeing the building take shape as we develop what promises to be a fantastic facility for the community.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives while also promoting independence, the new state-of-the-art care home will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities. Each individual bedroom will have an en-suite wet room, together with a flat-screen television, adjustable profile bed, and 24-hour nurse call system. Attractive and wheelchair friendly landscaped gardens will also give residents the opportunity to enjoy all the benefits of spending time outdoors.
