It’s all in a name: Cringleford pupils lend a helping hand to Care UK

Pupils from Cringleford Primary School were called upon to lend a helping hand to their new neighbours, when they were invited to take part in a competition to name five of the suites at Care UK’s new £7.5 million care home, Cavell Court.

Each of the suite names has reference or cultural relevance to Cringleford, with pupils encouraged to look at the town’s history for inspiration. The most popular suite name was ‘Patteson Suite’, named after Isabella Patteson, who started the Patteson Club in Cringleford as a reading room and working man’s club in 1911. The Patteson Club was regarded as the social centre of the village until the church hall was built in 1952. Liam Corrigan, aged 4; James Harvey, aged 4; Esmee Norton, aged 7; Timothy Barton, aged 6; Jessie Sun, aged 8; Ellie Hogston, aged 8; Liam Dye, aged 6; and Shianne Smith, aged 10, all scooped prizes for their winning entries – ‘Elizabeth Suite’, ‘Patteson Suite’, ‘Goodwin Suite’, ‘Taylor Suite’ and ‘Cogswell Suite’.

Each of the children were presented with book tokens by two representatives from the new team at Cavell Court – Anita O’Neill, home manager and Samantha Woods, customer relations manager, when they attended an assembly at the school.

Home manager, Anita O’Neil, said: “As we gear up to welcome our first residents to Cavell Court in June, the all-important naming of the suites within the care home was a priority, and we thought this presented an excellent opportunity to work with Cringleford Primary School and to get to know our neighbours a little better. The competition entries were all of a very high quality and we’re really pleased with the chosen five names.”

Head teacher, Neil Henery, said: “The suite naming competition not only gave the pupils an excellent opportunity to learn all about the new care home here in Cringleford, but it also encouraged them to think about the history and geography of their local area when seeking out inspiration for their entries. The competition was enjoyed by all the pupils here and we hope to do more activities like this with Cavell Court in the future.”

Situated on Round House Way, Cavell Court will provide a range of care services for older people, including residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, as well as short-term respite, palliative, and sensitive end of life care. Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, the home will feature a cinema, hair and beauty room, and coffee shop.
