All of the team dressed in pink for the day and home-baked cakes were sold to raise a total of £100.
The event brought the community together at Appleby House and was enjoyed by the residents and their relatives, children from the local school, volunteers and carers alike.
The judging panel consisted of two volunteers from the Alzheimer’s Society; Rosemary Copsey and Carol Hackett, and Erica Johnson a relative of one of Appleby’s residents. A pupil from the local school won first place in the competition; Eva from Blenheim School won the bake-off with her layered coconut cake decorated with flowers and petals. Second place went to Jasmine Hill, activity co-ordinator, for her devil’s food cake and third place went to Madge Deering, a friend of Appleby House, for her chocolate rice crispy cakes.
The £100 that Appleby House raised will go directly to Breakthrough Breast Cancer, a charity that directly funds research into the prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.
