From 11:15am – 12.30pm, Mark Harrison, dementia specialist trainer at Care UK, will join the team at the care home to share his knowledge and provide practical guidance for those caring for someone living with dementia. Mark will be looking at the realities of dementia and will be discussing coping mechanisms and tactics for dealing with the condition’s associated behaviours.
After the event, Mark will be on hand to answer any questions and there will also be an opportunity for members of the public to meet the carers at Brook Court. There will also be complimentary refreshments and a light buffet.
Linda Clement, home manager at Brook Court, said: “With dementia affecting 820,000 people in the UK and a startling 25 million people having a close friend or family member living with the condition, there is a real and pressing need to open up access to professional support and information, and to ensure there are places people can go where they can share individual experiences.
“By hosting a seminar on the subject, we can provide people in Kidderminster with expert advice and give them a chance to find out more about dementia services in the area.”
Everyone who attends the experiencing dementia event at Brook Court can pick up a copy of Care UK’s recently published ‘Listen, talk, connect’ guide, which has been designed to help friends and relatives overcome the challenges they may face in having conversations and general interaction with those living with dementia.
Situated on Oldnall Road, Brook Court opened in September 2013 and provides places for up to 67 people. The state-of-the-art home has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives.
